The primary goal of this league is to provide an enjoyable and inexpensive way for friends and fellow golfers to come together. It’s all about having fun, sharing great conversations, and spending a couple of hours each week hitting that little white ball.

Of course, a bit of competition never hurts! To keep things interesting, I’ve set up a few simple rules to add a fun, competitive edge while keeping the focus on camaraderie and good times.

Season Dates

• Eight (8) Weeks: Nov 10 - Jan 5, 2025
• No League on Monday, December 8

Warm-Up and Start Times

• Optional warm-up: Starts at 6:30 PM. Usually 10-15 Swings per player
• Match start: Promptly at 7:00 PM.
• Important: If you’re not at the venue and ready to play by 7:00 PM, you will forfeit that week’s match. Topgolf’s system does not allow players to be added once the game begins.

Check-In

• No need to check in at the front desk. If you do, just ask the bay number for “Ayres Group”
• Bay assignments will be sent via text by 6:15 PM each week.

Handicaps

The handicap system in golf is designed to ensure fair competition by allowing golfers of all skill levels to compete on an even footing. It gives less experienced players a chance to compete against more seasoned golfers by factoring in their respective skill levels.

A handicap is not simply your average score. Instead, it’s calculated using an algorithm that considers:

• The difficulty of the course you’re playing (course rating and slope).
• Your individual performance, focusing on your potential rather than just your average scores.
• Calculation Method: Handicap = (Rating - Score) ÷ Slope × 113

As you improve, your handicap adjusts to reflect your current skill level, making the system dynamic and fair for everyone involved.

If no current Top Golf handicap exists, your handicap will be established based on your first score. This means that your first score will be NET even par. After 8 rounds, your highest score will be thrown out. After 12 rounds, the highest 4 scores will be thrown out. This is how regular handicapping works.

The Sandbagger Rule

To maintain the integrity of the league and ensure fair competition, the following rule applies to all players:

• While your weekly score will count toward standings, as well as birdies, eagles, and other point values, the score entered into the handicap system cannot differ by more than seven strokes better or five strokes worse than your established handicap.
• This rule prevents handicaps from being manipulated to gain an unfair advantage in future rounds.
• By applying this rule, we can ensure the handicap system reflects true performance and keeps the competition fair and fun for everyone!

Weekly Scoring

• Gross Score: Used for ongoing handicap calculation.
• Net Score (Gross Score minus Handicap Differential): Used to earn points for standings.

Points

• Participation: 1 point per week for completing the round.
• 1st place (Net Score): 3 points
• 2nd place (Net Score): 2 points
• 3rd place (Net Score): 1 point

I will post the standings each week and make available to the group via text.

Bonus Points

In addition to the points you may receive for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place each week. The following bonus points will be awarded after each round based on NET score per hole.

• Birdie = 1 point (in addition to standard scoring)
• Eagle = 2 additional points
• Albatross = 3 additional points
• Hole in 1 = 5 additional points (GROSS scores only!)

Emergency Mulligan Rule

Every now and then, the Topgolf simulator can glitch, or you might just have a swing you’d rather forget. That’s where the Emergency Mulligan comes in! One ‘mulligan’ (do over) is allowed per 9-hole round, so choose wisely when to use it!

Equipment

Bring your own clubs, or use the upgraded Callaway AI Smoke clubs provided at the bay. I usually bring my driver and my wedge, the upgraded clubs work pretty nicely—but the choice is yours.

Cost

$75 payable to Phil Ayres via Zelle or Apple Pay. This fee for 8 weeks of competition. This is due before your first season round.

Food & Beverage

• You’re welcome to order food and drinks during the round.
• Open your own tab with the server when you arrive.
• Be kind and tip well! The bay hosts will likely recognize us from week to week.
